Rug Repair

Rugs do not have to be treated badly to require a repair or restoration. Over time a rug will sustain some harsh treatment with being constantly walked on, together with the odd accidental spillage here and there.

There are so many different fibres and colours, together with fringes and edging that it takes qualified professionals, such as Tulbuz, to know what the correct repair processes.

Please do not attempt to repair your valuable rug yourself, you could create more damage.

Fringe Repair

Fringes and edges of a rug are not just for decorative purposes but are extensions of the rug’s foundation. If pulled, torn or damaged it can cause your rug to unravel. Unfortunately, fringes are often the first part of the rug to be damaged.

Rugs are cleaned and dyed, giving them a fresh and younger look. Rugs may be dyed more than once to gain the best possible result. You may want the same colour freshened up, or a totally new colour.

Fibre Repair

As your rug begins to age, you might start to notice some wear and tear to the fibres. Rugs in high trafficked areas of your home will show damage faster than others. Other than general wear and tear, little nasty critters such

as moths and silverfish, exposure to direct sunlight and UV rays and being left in damp environments causing mildew can also cause small to extensive damages to your rug and its fibres.

Rug Trimming

Continual use in everyday homes can often result in damage and wear. More serious damage such as major tears can often be repaired, or as a last resort, damaged rugs may be cut down and re-sized while still keeping the pattern intact.

A fringe is the part of the rug that gets the dirtiest and also take the most amount of time and skill to clean. As these are usually the

dirtiest looking part of you rug, we make sure to pay extra attention to detail. We want your rug looking brand new and our secret to that is treating the fringes like royalty.

to unravel which will impact the value of your rug. Let our professionals identify and assess your rug – we can either repair or replace damaged fringes and stop your rug from unravelling.

Bindings Repaired

Whether you want left over carpet to be made into small mats or larger pieces to be made into area rugs, we can cut it to size and finish the edges right here in our rug spa.

Binding of the edges is what we most commonly do by sewing on a “Binding Tape “around the four sides of the carpet.

Tears & Holes

Smaller tears and holes can generally be repaired, but if your rug has sustained large amounts of damage then it may need to be patched, resized or trimmed.

Moth Damage

Normally moth damage occurs when a rug is in storage as the moths seek out undisturbed and dark areas. However,

a rug which is placed under furniture is at higher risk as are large rugs which cannot be moved with ease.

Colour Run & Browning

Rug Colour Run

If your rugs have been mishandled by carpet cleaners or they are over dyed, their colour may run. Apart from this your rugs may have been damaged by water, urine or unsafe cleaning solutions causing colour run or bleeding.

Fringe Colour Run

Our fringe colour run removal service removed the colour run from the fringe of your rug to make it bright and clean again. Rug fringes and tassels can tricky to clean. It is easy to damage the rug if you do not clean them properly, and unfortunately, they tend to get dirty more easily since they are at the edge of the rug.

The browning reaction can depend on certain factors, such as drying time, humidity, rug age, and materials used when making the rug. When browning reaction starts to occur, call Tulbuz to reduce browning and reverse the effects.

Sewerage Rugs

Sewage overflows can occur at home as a result of damaged or blocked plumbing, backflow from the sewerage system, a damaged septic tank or as a result of flood water containing sewage. Sewage contains harmful microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and protozoa which can be trapped in the fibres of your carpets and rugs.

At Tulbuz, our highly trained and professional technicians will remove your rugs and safely transport them back to our on-site rug spa warehouse to test and treat your sewerage damaged rugs.

ATP is found in all living cells; an ATP sampling device is an effective means of sampling a surface for mould and microbial contamination. The greater the ATP level, the higher the mould or microbial contamination level.

Our drying room and antimicrobial treatments are designed to take care of your rugs so the bacteria can be removed and your rugs returned to you with your family’s health in mind.

Some rugs may be non-restorable due to ATP swab testing levels, but let our professionals make that call.

Mould Rugs

Mould is the enemy.

Mould spores are commonly found naturally in the air. If spores land on a wet or damp spot indoors that contains dust for them to feed on, mould growth will soon follow. Wall-to-wall carpeting, as well as rugs, can provide an ample breeding ground for mould if conditions are right.

Moulds have the potential to cause health problems. Moulds produce allergens, irritants, and in some cases, potentially toxic substances. Inhaling or touching mould or mould spores may cause allergic reactions in sensitive people. Allergic reactions to mould are common. They can be immediate or delayed.

Moulds can also cause asthma attacks in people with asthma who are allergic to mould. In addition, mould exposure can irritate the eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs of both mould-allergic and non-allergic people. Symptoms other than the allergic and irritant types are not commonly reported as a result of inhaling mould

If your rugs have been water or mould effected, we recommend one of our professionals collect and wrap your rug for safe transport back to our dedicated rug spa where we can complete our 6-step anti-microbial and mould guard process to mitigate any further loss or damages to your rug and your family’s health.

Tulbuz Mould Treatment

Stop the spread of mould with a specialised anti-microbial and mould guard solution to effectively treat hidden and visible mould to remove air-borne spores and restore air quality to safe, healthy levels.

Backed by our 12-month warranty: we warrant that mould will not return for 12 months. **

Colour Dying

Since mould is not water soluble, it may create a stain in carpet that may be bleached safely with hydrogen peroxide.  Just like urine, the bacteria that feeds on the waste products of mould off-gases ammonia.  Ammonia can remove colour from carpet or rugs, causing a discoloration that requires re-dyeing.

Keep in mind that the mould may have “digested” the rug’s cotton or wool fibres causing permanent damage which will require repairs and restoration including the fringes, holes and fibre damage or even colour fading.

Fire Damage/Odour

Emergency situations require us to act quickly. Living in Australia, emergencies and extreme weather conditions, such as bush fires and floods are all too typical occurrences. These serious events can cause serious water or fire damage to your property as well as your personal belongings.

Whether from fire damage, cigarette smoke, or even burnt food, insidious smoke odours, can permeate every inch of your home — especially your carpet, furniture, and rugs.

The biggest challenge first is removing smoke odours that have damaged your carpets and rugs. Depending on the source of the fire, and the type of smoke it caused, rugs and other porous surfaces of your home can be affected in different ways.

Smoke & Odour Treatment

The sanitisation process neutralizes organics (fungi and bacteria). With proper dwell time, this process will reach

into porous areas like some rug backing ensuring all smoke related odours are removed from deep within the fibres.

Drying Room & Ozone/Hydroxils

One of the most common mistakes people make is that they hose down their rug and just hang it over a clothesline or fence and think their problem is solved. Their rugs usually end up here because their rugs often end up smelling, or warping because of the density or the make of the fibres

Here at our on-site rug spa we have built a unique drying room that dries rugs at the most optimal temperature and humidity. We run industrial fans and dehumidifiers at just the right frequency to provide the perfect environment to get your rugs smelling fresh and new again.

If odour is a problem for your rug, we can also run our Hydroxyl Machines; they emit hydroxyls and natural oils that will overcome even the nastiest of smells.

Tulbuz is now using hydroxyl generators to eliminate odours including but not limited to smoke, pet, mould, and mildew in carpets and rugs. Hydroxyl systems use green technology to provide the most effective and efficient solution to eliminate odours, decontaminate surfaces, and purify the air for residential and commercial needs.

Hydroxyl generating equipment is a great way to eliminate odours and are used to establish a cleaner and fresher air quality.
